Moissanite 101
Everything you need to know about moissanite.
What is moissanite?
Moissanite is a silicon carbide gemstone originally discovered in a meteor crater in 1893 by Nobel Prize-winning scientist Henri Moissan. Because natural moissanite is exceedingly rare, nearly all moissanite sold today is lab-created — identical in structure to the natural stone, grown under controlled conditions.
Moissanite vs. diamond.
| Brilliance | Moissanite has a refractive index of 2.65, compared to diamond's 2.42. More sparkle, more fire. |
| Hardness | 9.25 on the Mohs scale. Diamond is 10. Both are suitable for daily wear. |
| Ethics | 100% lab-created. No mining, no conflict, fully traceable. |
| Price | Approximately 90% less than an equivalent diamond. |
Color and clarity.
All Stone Blvd moissanite is graded D-E-F on the color scale (colorless) and VVS on the clarity scale — the highest grades available. Every stone is certified.
Caring for your moissanite.
