Moissanite is almost as hard as a diamond and won't cloud, fade, or scratch under normal wear. But good care keeps it looking its best. Here's exactly how to do it.
Daily wear
Put your piece on after makeup, lotion, perfume, and hairspray. Chemicals in cosmetics build up on stones and dull the sparkle over time. Take it off before gym, pool, shower, and sleep.
Cleaning at home
Once a month is plenty for everyday pieces. More often if you notice buildup.
- Mix warm (not hot) water with a drop of dish soap in a small bowl.
- Soak the piece for 10 minutes.
- Scrub gently with a soft-bristle toothbrush — pay attention to the underside of the stone where buildup collects.
- Rinse in clean warm water.
- Pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
That's it. No ultrasonic cleaner needed. No jewelry cleaner needed. Dish soap beats almost everything on the market.
What to avoid
- Bleach, chlorine, and ammonia. These attack sterling silver and gold plating. Take your ring off before cleaning the house or swimming.
- Ultrasonic cleaners. Fine for the stone, but can loosen prongs over time on rings with small accent stones or pavé settings.
- Steam cleaners. Same reason.
- Abrasive cloths. Use a microfiber or jewelry-specific polishing cloth. Paper towels can leave micro-scratches on gold plating.
Storage
Store each piece separately. Jewelry knocks into itself and scratches metal. A soft pouch, a lined box, or individual compartments keep things clean. Never leave pieces loose in a drawer.
When to take it off
- Lifting weights or heavy gym work (bent prongs are the #1 ring damage)
- Swimming (chlorine damages plating)
- Gardening or manual labor
- Sleeping (knocks and bends happen here too)
- Applying sunscreen, lotion, or perfume
Gold plating care
Our gold-plated pieces use a thick rhodium or gold layer — far more durable than costume jewelry — but plating is still plating. Over years of heavy wear, it can thin. If your piece ever needs replating, any local jeweler can do it affordably (usually $30–80). Plan on replating heavy-wear pieces every 3–5 years.
When to contact us
If a prong loosens, a stone loosens, or something looks off within the first year, email support@stoneblvd.co. Our one-year warranty covers manufacturing defects. Outside the warranty window, any jeweler can tighten prongs for a nominal fee.
Treat moissanite like the real gemstone it is and it'll outlast you.
